How To: Pine Cone Chair Decoration

Published on November 29th, 2011

Materials Needed:

• Pine cones (one per chair)
• Floral wire
• Wire cutters
• Artificial plant sprigs with decorative berries
• 1/2″ wide ribbon
• Thin jewelry wire
• 3″ wide ribbon
• Scissors

How to:

1. Wrap a piece of floral wire around the base of the pine cone leaving some excess wire. Twist the wire to hold it in place.

2. Attach the artificial berries to the pine cone by twisting the excess wire around it. Make sure the top of the plant with the berries hangs over the edge of the bottom of the pine cone.

3. Lay the 1/2″ ribbon flat on the table. Fold part of the ribbon loosely and hold it in place with your finger. Then, fold the ribbon the opposite way to create another loop on the other side of your finger. Repeat until you have three loops on either side of your finger. Make a loop in the center of the ribbon where your finger is holding the bow in place and tie the bow together by twisting thin jewelry wire through the center loop. Leave excess wire on the ends.

4. Attach the bow to the berries using the excess wire by twisting the wire around the stem of the berries.

5. Cut a long length of the 3″ ribbon. Fold the ribbon loosely to make a loop at the top. Then fold it again to make another loop at the bottom. Make one more loop behind the top loop that will drape over the back of the chair.

6. Wrap the back loop of the 3″ ribbon over the back of the chair and secure it with the floral wire by twisting it around the center of the loops.

7. Attach the pine cone decoration to the 3″ ribbon by twisting the excess wire around it. Using wire cutters, remove any excess wire.

8. Using scissors, cut a V-shape at the end of the 3″ ribbon for a decorative touch.
